Your mindset probably does not sound like fear

Your mindset probably does not sound like fear. In B2B, it often sounds like certainty.

“I know this market.” “Our buyers do not respond to that.” “That channel will not work for us.” “I am not technical.” “We tried this before.”

That is why it gets expensive.

A fixed mindset in business rarely says, “I cannot learn.” It says, “I already know enough.”

By the time you notice the cost…

You are not behind because you lacked ability. You are behind because you stopped practising the skills the market started rewarding.

Save this before “I am being realistic” becomes the sentence that protects your fixed mindset.

5 ways to notice a fixed mindset is getting the better of you:

  1. You reject a new idea because it failed once. ↳ Ask what has changed since the last attempt.

  2. You avoid a skill because it makes you feel junior. ↳ Take one bad first rep before you judge your ability.

  3. You hear feedback as a challenge to your status. ↳ Ask, “What part of this could make the outcome better?”

  4. You stay close to the work that already proves your value. ↳ Pick one uncomfortable skill that would make you more useful.

  5. You call your current way “experience.” ↳ Check whether it is helping you learn or helping you hide.

The cost of a fixed mindset in B2B is narrowness.

You keep using the same sales motion. You keep trusting the same buyer assumptions. You keep hiring the same type of person. You keep solving new problems with old methods.

I have done this.

I have called it judgment. I have called it focus. I have called it protecting the business.

Sometimes it was.

Other times, I was avoiding the discomfort of being bad at something again. That is where growth mindset becomes practical.

You test your certainty before the market tests it for you. Name the fixed mindset while it is still a thought.

Turn it into practice before it becomes your strategy.
